The self defense weapon in the real world; most unusual class!
This video comes from our sister site or rather the podcast site. Before you go and view the podcast, I want to point out a few things. This class is a mixture of martial artists who are familiar with the self-defense weapon and new students. I broke up the class into small “learning groups” and handed out the various models of the self defense weapon. I asked each group to review some of the techniques they already knew, but then, to “invent” techniques with the various tools. This is what is needed on the street for your self defense. You need to be able to “invent” technique based on the principles of the self defense weapon.
What is fun to watch is the learning curve and especially with the new students, whom have not see the weapon before, watch their surprise as they learn what it can do. It doesn’t look like anything but what you can do with them is fantastic. I remember the first time I saw the original tool from my teacher, I had no clue as to what it was for what it can do. You will see the same surprise and fascination on the faces of the new students. You'll also note that these things really hurt and that the students, as easy as they can be, still experience pain.
I know it's difficult to appreciate the power of these self-defense weapons, especially you look at them from a website and have never seen them in action, however here you can see them in a real-world setting. You can see the pain and surprise that comes from these weapons. In a later podcasts, and in any future review here, I will discuss how you can transfer the skills from the self-defense weapon to other common household items. This truly is the power of the weapon, and that the principles of the weapon are transferable to many other items.
This podcast is one of a three-part podcast. So don't forget to queue up and look at the other two parts. At the end of part three you will see a summary of the opinions in the concepts that the students learned in that class. This is very to watch and understand. At the conclusion of these podcasts yet is very easy to see why these weapons make such great self-defense weapons.
