What a shame about this murder of Chelsea King by John Albert Gardner, a sex offender! I was watching the news last night, 3/2/2010, and reading what I could find about this case. back and even use weapons to defend ourselves. This unfortunate murder of Chelsea, a straight A student, and a wonderful person show our need to learn self defense! We don't know the details yet, as to if she did fight or have a chance to fight back; but unless she actually was trained to fight back, she probably had little chance of survival. I have been teaching womens self defense classes for over 30 years and I can tell you that there is an art to fighting back; every woman should know these skills. At a minimum you have a fighting chance to change the minds of these sick'os. Here are some things that I think are mandatory in life:
1) Every person should be trained to defend themselves. This means a self defense class at a minimum. Also realize that taking a "sport art" for self defense isn't a good thing to consider.
2) Every person should know how to use a weapon or improvised weapon in their self defense. You have to embrace the idea that "you are the weapon" concept in your mind.
3) They should know the four stages of a violent attack and how to get out of said attack.
4) Every person should know how to disarm an attacker. There is a great video on this "simple weapons disarms", it is a must for your survival.
5) Every person should know how to walk in bad area's at night and not become a target.
I will have more on these topics at a later date but please start thinking of what you must do for your self defense, NOW.
